My story
Hello!
My journey into UX started way before I knew what UX was and throughout my journey I was problem-solving and finding joy and pride in helping people get what they needed.
1. Teaching in Japan
With a dream to live in Japan after studying it for over 10 years, I found myself working in the Japanese countryside, teaching children little and large and helping them find the confidence to express themselves in English (all while eating my fill of everything I could fit in my belly). Teaching was rewarding to no end, but I wanted to experience a corporate environment.
2. Marketing and PR
This led me to try my hand at marketing for a B2B agency based in Tokyo. Here I learned how much I enjoyed speaking to clients but wanted a role where I spent less time muddling my way through written words, and more time physically speaking to people.
3. Apple Japan
I stumbled into an Apple Store in Fukuoka and sure enough gained a new title as apple specialist. I met customers across ages and backgrounds and had a blast talking to people for a living! I listened to their worries, found solutions that sometimes even the customers hadn’t considered, and facilitated fun summer workshops in English for children in the community to get creative! Life at Apple was great but I wanted more! I wanted a career where I had space to learn, grow, talk and allow to me be creative.
Enter my official introduction to UX!
So in true Steve Jobs fashion, here is where I connected the dots. Through my journey, I learned that I love problem solving, am creative, love talking and take joy in making life easier for the customers I serve. Searching for a new challenge, I enrolled in a bootcamp, worked for a behavioural research agency and now work at JD Sports, where I learned how to apply my learnings and do everything I love!
